Phillip F Propst *

Phillip Filmore Propst, of Buffalo Junction, passed away on Tuesday February 11, 2025, at the age of 73.
Phil was the ultimate self-starter and hard worker. He built multiple successful businesses from scratch, starting with the Orange Market on Highway 58, then moving to Riverdale where he and Bunny ran Ratliff’s Grocery and then Riverdale Auto Sales. Phil loved hunting, fishing, Nascar, and spending time with family and friends. He dealt with health and mobility challenges most of his adult life, but lived every day with grit and determination that were inspirational. He taught his family to work hard, save their money, and keep on getting back up when you get knocked down. He adored his grandchildren and was their co-conspirator whenever they visited. He and Bunny were blessed with a lifetime of love, taking great care of each other, through good times and bad.
Phil is survived by his lifelong sweetheart and dedicated sidekick, Rose Marie Talbott Propst (Bunny), and by his loving daughter, Olivia, her husband Jason, and their two daughters, Audrey Rose and Willamina Mae Shockey of Olney, Maryland. Phil will be missed by his step-mother, Betty M, Propst, of Hyco Road. He was the much loved brother-in-law to Bunny’s siblings: Donna Hudson (Michael), Sandy Slayton (Marshall), and Darrin Talbott (Dianne). Phil was predeceased by his father Dodd Propst, his mother Dora Conner Propst, and his sister Kaye Propst Willis.
Bunny sincerely appreciates the many kind messages she has received from her friends during this time. She is thankful for every member of the medical teams at Sentara Halifax Regional and at Duke who took good care of them over the last few weeks.
Phil’s love of life and laughter will be celebrated on Friday, February 14th at the Hyco Road Ruritan Club, where friends and neighbors are invited to join the family for a covered dish supper from 5 till 8 pm. Bunny also welcomes you to visit her in their home at your convenience.
