Ray H. Shockey Sr. *

Mr. Ray H. Shockey, Sr., 97, of Tomstown Road, Waynesboro, PA passed away Thursday morning, March 22, 2018 in his home. 

Born September 14, in Quincy Township, PA he was the son of the late Elmer C. and Rosie V. (Welsh) Shockey. He was a lifelong resident of Quincy Township.

After high school he served with the United States Army during World War II from September 24, until his honorable discharge on December 24, 1945. 

He and his wife of nearly 70 years, Geraldine P. (Bricker) Shockey were married March 26, in Hagerstown, MD. 

Mr. Shockey worked as a machinist at Landis Machine Company, Waynesboro from 1941 until 1961. He then went on to work for Mack Truck, Hagerstown as a machinist from 1961 until his retirement in
He was a member of the Blue Rock U.B. Church, Waynesboro, where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class and served on the personnel committee. Mr. Shockey was also a member of Waynesboro Fish and Game and the United Auto Workers union. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, going camping, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Ray Shockey, Jr. and his wife, Bonnie of Waynesboro, Bonnie Hahn and her husband, Greg of Mont Alto, PA, Trudy and her husband, Perry of Waynesboro, and Priscilla Hahn and her husband, Jeff of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four siblings, Orville Shockey of Waynesboro, Earl Shockey of Michaux Manor Assisted Living Center, South Mountain, Glen Shockey of State Line, PA, and Kathleen of Fayetteville, PA; and a number nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by an infant grandson, Hahn, Jr.; his siblings, Shockey, Wilbur Shockey, Tressa Shoemaker; and two infant brothers.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, March 26, 2018 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro, PA with Pastor Gregory Helman officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, Quincy, PA where military graveside services will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Monday afternoon, in the funeral home.
