Sarah Martin

Mrs. Sarah passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 26, . She was 89 years old. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 2, 2023 at 12 PM in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory. A visitation will take place one hour prior between the hours of 11 AM and 12 PM. The family will privately inurn Mrs. Sarah Martin between her beloved husband, Leonard Martin and son, Donald Martin.
Sarah was born November 13, in Fayetteville, to the late Mr. Walter Shockey and Mrs. Audrey McClung Shockey. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and held her beliefs in line with the Baptist Faith and Message. Sarah enjoyed tending her Daffodils and Amaryllises in her flower garden. She loved reading the latest Guideposts, Reader’s Digest, and National Geographic articles. Sarah also enjoyed word searches and fishing. Above all, however, she treasured her family and, until she was no longer able, would prepare a great Sunday Dinner for her family as they visited. Sarah was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister and everyone who knew her will miss her.
Along with her parents, husband, and son she is preceded in death by her siblings: Paul Shockey, Mildred Shockey , June Shockey Blackwelder and Shockey.
Sarah is survived by her children: Leonard (Becky) Martin, Jr. of Centerville, Susan (Larry) Hinson of Robins, Sharon (Bill) Sanders of Kathleen, Sandra (Eddie) Icard of Bonaire, and Orval (Korinn) Martin of Fort Valley; twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
