Terry L Shockey *
Terry L. Shockey, 79 of Ottawa, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral home in Ottawa.
Terry was born on May 1, 1943 in St. Augustine, FL to Joanne Shockey. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Science from Penn State and later his Master’s from Stevens Institute of Technology. Terry was a software engineer at Bell Labs (Lucent). From a young age you could find him playing with model trains, woodworking, or playing basketball, softball or bocce. His daughters fondly remember bike rides on the Prairie Path, neighborhood walks, and hikes in state parks with him, and coaching WIA softball teams consumed many of his summers.
Terry has been an enduring fan of Penn State football and the Philadelphia Phillies; he went as far as scorekeeping for most games. He was an avid reader, a lifetime learner, continuing to mentor and educate others on computer software systems and use of technology. Most recently, Terry enjoyed sharing his love of trains and neighborhood walks with his granddaughter, Ayla Larabee.
He is survived by three daughters, Brenda (Julie Hackert) Shockey of Dunlap, TN, Bridget (Lance) Laushot of Romeville, IL, and Karen (Nicholas) Shockey Larabee of Huntley, IL; and three sisters, Liz (Hal) Johnson of Pennsylvania, Ellen Bloom of Vermont, and Lynn (Duke) Martin of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joanne (Shockey) Bloom.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Humane Society or United Negro College Fund (UNCF).
