Vivian Hedin *
Vivian “Vee” Othea McCarrell Hedin, 78, of Blackfoot, Idaho, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot with her loving companion of 57 years by her side. Vivian was born October 27, 1933, in Blackfoot, Idaho, the oldest child of Sidney Marvie McCarrel and Lena Eliza Capson. She graduated from White Pine High School in Ely, Nevada. On March 17, 1955, Vee married Harry David Hedin in Elko, Nevada. Together they had four children: Kim, Kara, Karla, and Kasia. She lived in various places during her lifetime including Nevada, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Montana before moving back to her preferred hometown of Blackfoot, Idaho. Upon returning, the couple purchased a farm in the country and together worked on raising livestock, building fences, and flood irrigating. Vee worked for a time at Sunspice Potato, Walker Potato Warehouse and at Star Potato. She also served as secretary of South Town Ditch Company for many years until her declining health prevented her from doing the impeccable job she required of herself. In her free time, she enjoyed genealogy, quilting, sewing, crocheting, putting together puzzles, and going on cruises with her sister Fern. She especially loved time spent with family and faraway visitors. Vee was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served for a time as church librarian, spending hours organizing and improving the materials as only she could. She is survived by her husband Harry of Blackfoot; a son, Kim (Beverly) Hedin of Hailey, Idaho; daughters, Kara (Terry) Bjarnson of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Karla (Quinn) Twiggs of Blackfoot; one brother, Marvie (Connie) McCarrell of Houston, Alaska; sisters, Joan (Darrel) Cotterell of Sacramento, California, Fern Brown of Firth, Marlene Rogers of Firth, and Barbara Foster of Blackfoot; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren with three more expected.
