Katherine Shockey *
Kathryn Louise (Adamson) Shockey, 75, of Spearfish, passed away peacefully at her home after a courageous battle with cancer on April 25th. 2024.
Kathe was born August 16th, 1948 in Brookings, SD to Royal and Marilyn (Steinlicht) Adamson.
She graduated from Brookings High School in 1966 and attended South Dakota State University for two years. A trip to Deadwood with her college roommate changed the direction of her life as she met Lloyd on a blind date. They married March 16th, 1973 and welcomed two daughters, Teri and Janelle. They celebrated 51 years of marriage this past March.
Kathe worked at the Deadwood hospital for 32 years, retiring from human resources in 2015. In addition to being a voracious reader, she enjoyed gardening, adult coloring, watching her grandchildren’s sporting events, scrapbooking, and restoring life and beauty to all things old and new. Family time meant the world to her which could be as simple as s’mores nights by the fire pit, sitting on the patio enjoying a glass of Pinot Grigio, many trips to Colorado, and visiting wineries, her favorite being Belle Joli’.
She is survived by her husband Lloyd; daughter Teri (Derek) Lutchka, Eaton, CO; daughter Janelle (TJ) Gusso, Spearfish, SD; brother Paul (Pat) Adamson, Sioux City, IA; brother David (Beth) Adamson, Aurora, CO; Sister, Glenda (Leonard) Skovly, Brookings, SD; grandchildren Madison (Parker) Schnabel; Drew (Sophie) Gusso; Sydney (Dane) Burghduff; and Tristan Lutchka; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Royal and Marilyn Adamson; her brother, Dale Adamson; father- and mother-in-law, Elmer and Laura (Greene) Shockey; sisters-in-law, Carlene (Shockey) Collins, Karen (Shockey) Balderson, Carolyn (Shockey) Martin; and brothers-in-law Gale Shockey and Merle Shockey.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 2nd from 3:00p-5:00p at Isburg Funeral Home in Spearfish, SD. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 3rd, 2024 at 10:30am at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spearfish, SD. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
A memorial has been established at First Interstate Bank in Spearfish.
